Dekko charity events raise over £2,500!

At Dekko, supplying our customers with high-quality PVC and aluminium windows and doors is of course important to us, but so is looking after our valued staff, and playing our part in helping our local community.

To date this year, our charity events have raised over £2,500, and we’re very proud of all our staff who’ve taken part in these very worthy causes.

How have we been getting involved?

Wear, Care, Share charity fundraiser

In March, we teamed up with Textile Recycling and Cash for Kids, a charity that works to improve the lives of disadvantaged children and young people in our communities who are affected by poverty, illness, neglect, or who have additional needs.

We encouraged our staff to bring in old clothes and other textiles that might have ended up going to landfill to be recycled instead, and for every tonne collected, Cash for Kids received £400 to help support disadvantaged children.

Last year, Cash for Kids raised a total of £21.4 million across the UK, supporting over half a million children, proving that Wear, Care, Share is a very worthwhile cause that we’re proud to be involved in.

Easter Raffle

This April, we held an Easter raffle at our premises, and managed to raise £270 for Willow Wood Hospice, an adult hospice in Ashton under Lyne that provides specialist palliative care for patients with life-limiting illnesses.

75% of the charity’s funding comes from the local community, helping them fund physical, psychological and social care to patients and their families, and we’re very proud to have been involved in helping where we can.

Great North Run half marathon

This September, members of the Dekko team took part in the Great North Half marathon, the world’s biggest half marathon. The iconic 13.1 mile route started in the centre of Newcastle and took runners through the city, across the Tyne Bridge, and through Gateshead before finishing in South Shields.

This year, our staff ran in support of the Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM), helping them fund support for those struggling with mental health.

From advice on their website about issues people might be facing, through to free, confidential chats with their helpline staff, either online or over the phone, the charity is there for anyone who is struggling, 365 days of the year.

Supporting our staff

Supporting charity isn’t the only way we help our community – we also support those a lot closer to home – our staff.

Cash Box Credit Union

In June, we partnered with Cash Box Credit Union in order to help support our staff. The community savings and loan cooperative involves members pooling their savings to lend to one another and help run the credit union, promoting financial inclusion by having access to secure savings and affordable loan products.

Barclays

We’ve teamed up with Barclays bank, giving our staff access to their support and services website, enabling them to get help with their financial health and well-being.

Christmas Special Charity Scratch Card

At Dekko, we’re all about Christmas spirit – so much so that we started our festivities in June!

Introducing the Christmas Special Charity Scratch Card, all our employees are invited to choose a number and pay £20 per square. The lucky winner will be announced in December and win the grand price of £1,500!
